Lila

Last Monday (Apr 25), my boyfriend and I went to see one of this year's Sinag Maynila Film Festival entry, Lila. Boy, were we in for a surprise.

The film is about a girl named Jess, who's just recently been in a terrible accident with her family. She wants to just move on and forget about what happened. She is accompanied by her cousin, Kevin, as she moves in an old renting house owned by a widow of 20 years.

Upon arriving, Jess immediately liked the place for its antique feel, and is greeted by the warmhearted landlady. She welcomes both of them and asks if they would like some coffee, Kevin declined and said he needed to go while Jess agreed.

During the first few days of her stay, Jess felt happy and right at home. But then things started to go a little different when she found an old tenant's diary. (That's how far I can tell you, I don't want to spoil you!)

Going to my reaction for the film, although it was a bit of your typical horror movie at the first few scenes, I liked it because it was subtle but gripping. You might immediately sense what was wrong but you can never put a finger on what it is. I constantly doubt everything that was happening and question small things that happen like I'm some sort of a paranoid freak (well, that has a tiny bit of truth in it. haha). The suspense was really effective for me as well, I ended up abusing my boyfriend's left arm during the scenes that were intense. (Sorry, luv! :D) Although I must say that the ending left some questions unanswered.

My boyfriend also enjoyed the film, although he isn't really a fan of those types of film. He liked the movie for the twist. He was also impressed with the acting skills of one of the cast. (don't want to pinpoint who, it might ruin the film for you) Hehe

Generally, the movie is worth the watch and I give it a 4/5.
